Dear RescuePetsIreland.com,
Unfortunately, I am contacting you to seek help in rehoming a dog that my wife & I adopted approx. 3/4 months ago from Dublin County Dog Shelter. His name is Louie & he is a neutered 5/6 year old (ish) Belgian Malinois.
He was found roaming the streets of Balbriggan in July/August & was in the shelter in Newcastle, Co. Dublin until a little over 3/4 months ago when we adopted him.
Firstly, he is a fantastic dog, timid & friendly around other dogs & people but he definitely needs more training when following commands & on walks. He can easily be distracted & is quite powerful on the lead when something catches his attention.
He is quite playful but thankfully does not nibble or chew on any furniture or anything at all.
Now, the problem is my other dog MamBo. She is 11 years old now & she just cannot bring herself to relax in the house when he is around. She has taken to growling at him which he completely ignores, but you can also see in her face that she is very stressed & she has taken to acting out of character since we've brought Louie home.
We spent 3 weeks walking them on weekends before completing the adoption process, & even now when outside, there is a certain level of ease between the 2 of them. They generally ignore each other & do their own thing. We took this as a positive sign but indoors, for MamBo, it is completely different.
I know since acquiring MamBo when she was a puppy, she is not going to change at this point.
Finally, my wife & I have no intention of placing Louie back into a shelter environment. We are separating both dogs when at home but this can only be a temporary solution. We are looking for help in finding someone to adopt Louie off us. We are not looking for anything in return & we have no problems having to travel a bit in order to find the right place for Louie. Any things we have purchased, we will happily pass on.
We simply want the best for him, he is such a great dog & truly deserves a happy life.
I have attached some photos for your reference.
Thank you for reading this.
Regards,
Anthony (0877197543)
